Setup Crop Planner
Introduction: The Crop Planner is where you set up what’s planted on each field for the season. This guide shows how to create your crop plan (manually or from John Deere Operation Center data), verify entities, and use the map view. It also explains why matching crop types between Operation Center and Harvest Profit is critical for seeding data imports.
Steps
- Open Crop Planner
- Go to Crop Planner (this is typically the first setup step for a new season).
- Choose a Setup Method
- Start Planning to set crops manually, or
- Pick Import Method to build your plan from existing data.
- Select the Data Source (if importing)
- Options include last year’s seeding/harvest and this year’s seeding/harvest.
- Common choices:
- Current year seeding (typical if you’ve already planted but haven’t harvested).
- Current year harvest (typical if the season is complete).
- Click Generate Crop Plan and wait for operations to populate.
- Verify Fields & Entities
- Confirm each field shows the correct crop for the current season.
- If a field shows “Nothing selected” with a red box for Entity, pick the correct Entity or Entity Share from the dropdown.
- Need a new entity? Go to Account Settings > Entities & Landlords to add one.
- Note: Entity Shares are separate from Crop Share (Landlord) agreements. Don’t set both for the same landlord scenario.
- Bulk Edit (Optional)
- Select multiple fields (left-hand checkboxes) > click Set Crop to assign the same crop to many fields at once.
- Filter, Search, and Export
- Filter by Owner or Farm, and search by field name.
- Use Crop Plan by Field vs Crop Plan by Crop tabs to change the listing view.
- Export to PDF or Excel as needed.
- Units: If your account is set to Metric, areas import as hectares; if set to US, areas display as acres.
- Use the Map View (if connected to Operation Center)
- See planted crops by boundary and color-code for crop rotation analysis.
- If boundaries look off, go to Fields & Land Cost > Boundaries and sync your updated boundaries.
- Note: Map view export to PDF/Excel may not be available yet.

Importance of Crop Types for Operation Center Seeding Imports
For seeding data to import correctly from John Deere Operation Center, the Crop Type in Operation Center must match the Crop Type in Harvest Profit.
- Example: If Operation Center records Soft Red Winter Wheat but Harvest Profit has the crop set as Hard Red Winter Wheat, your seeding data will not import for that field.
- Before generating or verifying your crop plan, check Account Settings > Crops in Harvest Profit and ensure the Crop Type matches what’s used in Operation Center.
- Aligning crop types up front ensures planting data flows into your Crop Planner, Applications, and Reports.
Troubleshooting: Seeding data not appearing?
- Check crop type: In Harvest Profit, open Account Settings > Crops and ensure the Crop Type exactly matches the Operation Center crop type used on that seeding operation.
- Refresh machine data: If you recently updated crop types or connections, click the refresh/sync (cloud) button where applicable to re-pull Operation Center data.
- Verify field connections: In Fields & Land Cost > Connections, confirm each Harvest Profit field is linked to the correct Operation Center field(s).
