Setting up Specialty Crops

Introduction:

Welcome to our quick tutorial on how to track specialty crops in Harvest Profit.  This example highlights navy beans.  See the video below for a live walk-through.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Go to Account Settings:
    • Navigate to the Account Settings page and go to Crops.
    • Click New Crop and type in navy beans.
      • Note - you can do this process for any specialty crop. If you track yields and contracts with a unit other than bushels, 1lb/bushel allows you to do so in Harvest Profit. We are working on improvements to this process.
  2. Set Crop Details:
    • Enter 1 pound per bushel for crops tracked in pounds, bales, or other units.
    • Set a budget price (e.g., 40 cents).
    • Ensure that the crop is not connected to the Futures Market if it does not apply.
    • Click Add This Crop to save.
  3. Go to the Crop Planner:
    • Select a field where you want to add navy beans.
    • Choose navy beans from the dropdown menu and ensure the correct entity is selected.
  4. Set Yields:
    • Go to the Yields section and select navy beans.
    • Enter the estimated pounds per acre (e.g., 1,800 lbs).
    • Review the total production amount for contracts (e.g., 283,000 lbs).
  5. Review Reports:
    • Check the reports page to view production amounts for the field or crop.
    • If bushels are displayed in the system, remember to interpret them as pounds based on your settings.
