Add a Crop

Introduction: Managing your crops efficiently in Harvest Profit starts with adding them to your account. This tutorial walks you through how to add a new crop to your account and assign it to your fields. See the video below for a video walk-through.

  1. Navigate to Account Settings:
    • Go to the Account Settings page in Harvest Profit.
  2. Select Crops:
    • Scroll down to the Operation Details category and select Crops.
  3. Add a New Crop:
    • On the right-hand side, click New Crop.
    • Type in the crop you want to add (e.g., Wheat).
  4. Enter Crop Details:
    • Optionally, add a description (e.g., "Hard Red Winter Wheat").
    • Ensure the standard test weight is correct (choose from pounds or kilograms).
    • Set the standard moisture if applicable.
    • Crop Practice (please see the Crop Practices article for more details on utilizing Crop Practices.)
  5. Select Futures Market:
    • (Optional): Select the relevant Futures Market for the crop. 
  6. Add Budget and Basis Prices:
    • Enter the budget price and basis price for the crop.
    • Click Add This Crop.
  7. Assign the Crop to a Field:
    • Go to the Crop Planner page.
    • Select the new crop from the dropdown menu (e.g., Wheat).

Importance of Crop Types for Importing Seeding Data

When importing seeding data from John Deere Operation Center, it’s essential that your crop types in Harvest Profit match the crop types in Operation Center.

  • If the crop types don’t align (e.g., Operation Center lists Soft Red Winter Wheat but Harvest Profit only has Hard Red Winter Wheat set up), your seeding data will not import correctly.
  • To avoid issues, double-check crop types under Account Settings > Crops and confirm that they match the crop types recorded in Operation Center.
  • This step ensures that planting and yield data flow properly into your Crop Planner and reports.
Troubleshooting: If your planting/seeding data isn’t showing up after syncing from Operation Center, the most common reason is a crop type mismatch.
  1. In Harvest Profit, go to Account Settings > Crops and verify the crop type.
  2. In Operation Center, check the crop type used on the seeding operation.
  3. Update the crop type in Harvest Profit to match Operation Center, then refresh/sync.
